Why I am Re-Branding

time for change re-branding When I first started this blog, I didn’t put much thought into the name.  As I mentioned in the about me section of this blog, I discovered the name “Oh Diane” back in the 80’s when it was featured in a commercial.

I can never “own” this brand because (1) it is the title of a song by the rock group Fleetwood Mac; and (2) It is also the name of an Etsy store. So for the past couple of months, I’ve been wrestling with the idea of re-branding by changing the name of this blog.  When I finally decided that I was going to go through with the name change, I consulted with one of my online buddies to run the idea past her and to get her honest opinion on my idea.  She gave me some great tips, and encouraged me to go for it.

So this this time around, I took the time to really think about the new name.  Since I talk a lot about my family, I thought about how I could better reflect that in my blog name.  What I came up with is a fusion of our names.  So I’m guessing the next time you visit, the name and design of this blog will be totally different.  My twitter name will be changing as well.  At first I thought I would have to start over from scratch, but thankfully, the change will be seamless.  All of my current followers will be moved over to the new account because I am simply changing my twitter ID.

Facebook is another issue though.  As per their terms, you can only change the name of your page if you have less than 100 followers.  Since I have more than 100 followers, I will have to start over. Sad smile

Great new look and name! I didn’t know that about Twitter, so you can’t just change your name? Ugh, too bad, what a pain.

It is tough starting out. I had a blog prior to my current one and started over because I didn’t like the direction. I have also changed my twitter name, for the better I might say.;)
Good luck with your new site. The name really got my attention in my reader.

You have clearly put a lot of thought into the branding, Diane. It is so important to identify your blog to the world, set it aside form the rest, and make the brand something people will recognise. Yes, I agree the butterfly is splendid!

I really like your new “brand” Diane. The header is very pretty and the color scheme and graphics all match perfectly! I’m not surprised that Facebook hassled you about changing your name, they have lots of arbitrary “Gotcha” rules that only crop up after your pages are well established. One of the great things about hosting your own blog is the ability to do what you want!
