Last week, I attended a berry filled McDonald’s First Taste Event in NYC. The event was held at the Empire Hotel’s rooftop terrace and I got to rub shoulders with a lot of bloggers and journalists. At the event, we had a chance to just kick-back, relax and enjoy some treats including:
- Manicures by Lisa Logan, manicurist to stars like Beyonce
- Make-up tips and makeovers
We also had the opportunity to sample McDonald’s two newest menu items – the McCafe Cherry Berry Chiller and the Blueberry Banana Nut Oatmeal. Both of these items will only be available for a limited time only this summer.
While I like most berries, I’m not a big fan of blueberries so I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the Blueberry Banana Nut Oatmeal. I’m happy to say that I did. The flavors blended together nicely and the combination of fresh blueberries and walnuts was pretty satisfying. The oatmeal has 290 calories and has 5g of fiber and 6 g of protein so it will keep you feeling full for a long time.
The Blueberry Banana Nut Oatmeal contains approximately 1/4 cup of fresh blueberries in every serving. Hard to believe right? But it’s true. Take a look at my cup of oatmeal. It’s full of blueberries!
As for the McCafe Cherry Berry Chiller, I’m guessing that it is going to be my new favorite summer drink. It’s made with 100% fruit juice and is freshly prepared, made to order. It is a refreshingly, delicious drink. A 12 oz. serving is just 200 calories.

I am very pleased to see that McDonald’s is making an effort to include healthier options on their menu. Again, while we don’t frequent fast food restaurants often, It’s good to know that when we do, we have the option of ordering healthier meals.
McDonald’s also recently launched the New York Metro Nutrition Network. Through this network, New York Tri-State McDonald’s restaurant owners are reaching out to local organizations in an effort to provide funding to help these local organizations teach their communities to make better healthy eating choices.
