This past weekend, we took a little road trip to Virginia, specifically, the Virginia Beach area. Although we had lots of plans of stuff we wanted to do, it turned out to be a lazy mini-vacation.
We researched a few different Virginia getaway spots, but wound up staying at a hotel in Chesapeake, VA. We chose Chesapeake because it is very close to Virginia Beach (about 15 minutes away) and not too far from Williamsburg.
We visited the Virginia Aquarium in Virginia Beach.
While at the aquarium, we went on a little boat excursion through the the Owls Creek Salt Marsh.
Other than that, we didn’t do much. We did a little swimming, a little shopping and a lot of eating, but most of all, we did a lot of relaxing!
What’s your favorite thing to do when you travel? Do you plan every second of your trip, or just go with the flow?

The best part of vacation is relaxing. The boat ride looks peaceful too.

The boat ride was very peaceful. We went pretty early in the day so it was not crowded. There were only 10 of us on board.
The aquarium looks so nice! My boys would have loved the turtles.

They let them roam freely in a certain area of the aquarium. It was so cool!

I like to plan at least one thing to do a day. And usually a 4 hour or half day adventure. We can always skip or change them – but we can also know what we want to do/see etc. when someplace new.

I actually planned something to do each day, but at the end, hubby said he just wanted to relax.
I love mini vacations! I think they’re less stressful to plan/pack for, and you end up enjoying them more.
I love being able to crank the ac and sleep in; visit aquariums, zoos, and museums; and eat till I explode. lol

Agreed. Mini-vacations are less stressful. Seems like we like to do similar things while on vacation!

You have a beautiful family. We haven’t vacationed as a family yet, but plan to try to do so this summer. We’re hoping to go to the zoo and possibly CoSi which is a Kids Science museum. No planning to those beyond what time to leave, how much money we have (or don’t have lol) to spend, and when we’re coming back!

What a fun little getaway! The Minnesota Zoo is about 40 minutes from our house, so that *almost* feels like a vacation when we go

Getting away means that most if not all electronics stay home! Otherwise I would never relax!

I do bring my netbook when I get away just in case I really need to reply to someone or if an emergency arises, but I try to stay off of the electronics too!
