The Journey To Oz Balloon Tour Takes Off In Support For The Oz The Great And Powerful Movie

Just recently, Walt Disney announced to the public the launch of the new “Journey to Oz Balloon Tour”, which is sponsored by the multichannel retailer HSN and the IMAX Corporation. This launch is in support of the upcoming March 8 release of the movie “Oz the Great and Powerful” in cinemas and IMAX theatres across the U.S. The decorated hot air balloon started the tour this morning at the Walt Disney Studios located in Burbank, California.

The balloon tour stops across the country include the following:

• The premier of the Great and Powerful Oz at the Capitan Theatre in Hollywood (Feb. 13)

• Disneyland Resort, Anaheim California (Feb. 17)

• Daytona International Speedway located in Daytona Beach, Florida (Feb. 20)

• Central Park, New York City (March 5 and 6)

I’m so excited that it will be stopping in NYC! I’m hoping that I will be able to go and witness the event.  Although I must admit, I’d be scared to ride in one, I love to see colorful hot air balloons soaring in the air.

The “Journey to Oz Balloon Tour” application will also go live on the Facebook page of the film on February 15. The official Facebook link is Facebook.com/OzTheGreatAndPowerful. With this new app, fans of the film will be able to unlock the screenings in the cities near their location. The users can vote by Tweeting using a customized hash tag of their city (#DisneyOxSeattle). They can also vote by sharing on Facebook.

The movie “Oz the Great and Powerful” is directed by none other than Mr. Sam Raimi. The movie portrays the beginning of the beloved wizard character of L. Frank Baum. This tells the tale of a small town magician named Oscar Diggs, played by James Franco, who was hurled away from the dusty city of Kansas to the colorful place of Oz. Oscar thinks that he has hit the jackpot until he met the three witches of the land named Theodora, played by Mila Kunis, Evanora, played by Rachel Weisz, and Glinda, played by Michelle Williams. Initially, the witches were not convinced that Oscar is the wizard that they are expecting. This pushed Oscar to become involved in the problems faced by the inhabitants of Oz. Nevertheless, he must first identify who among the inhabitants are good and evil before everything is too late. With his ingenuity and a bit of wizardry and illusion, Oscar tries to transform himself to become the Great Wizard of Oz and eventually become a better man as well.

I am definitely excited about seeing this movie.  I’ve always loved the movie the Wizard of Oz and can’t wait to see we’re in store for with this movie.
