Champions For Kids: Local Solutions For Global Issues

CFK_abbott 250Organizations such as Champions for Kids focus on the well-being and overall development of children all across the country. Champions for Kids has the specific goal of mobilizing 20 million people by the year 2020 by providing training and resources for those who need it. The organization features certain projects each month like the Abbott Nutrition Pack a Snack and sponsors several ongoing projects including Abbott Nutrition RazorFest, Coca-Cola Mobilizing MILLIONS 5K Run/Walk, Global Leadership Fellows, Henkel Global Leadership Conference and SIMPLE Service Projects.

The primary mission of Champions for Kids is to provide resources for all children in all communities. The organization addresses all kinds of issues that affect children including homelessness, poverty, hunger, education and diseases and illnesses. It looks at the roots of these problems such as unemployment, housing foreclosures and the family structure that can diminish a child’s chances when facing the world. This organization understands that children need the basic necessities in life in order to succeed.

One of the organization’s focuses is on the need for nutrition and healthy food options for hungry children. One way Champions for Kids calls attention to this need is through the Abbott Nutrition RazorFest. The free event hosts thousands of children and their families to mix fun and games with a health and nutrition platform. Not only do these families learn about these issues, but they also have the chance to become directly engaged with improving the health and vitality of their communities.

Another way Champions For Kids is trying to address the issue of childhood hunger is through their simple service projects. Although they may be simple, these simple service projects do make a big impact. The simple service project for the month of January, is to join Abbott Nutrition and Champions for Kids to give hungry children nutritious food. As a participant in this simple service mission, I will be creating an Abbott Nutrition snack pack which will be donated to a local charity in my area called Fish, Inc. Fish Inc. is a service organization of volunteers who respond with compassion to the needs of the poor, the elderly, the homeless, and those who “fall between the cracks” of public assistance. They provide monthly food packages to approximately 600 families in the area.

You can help too!

If you would like to join me in creating a snack pack for a child in need in your area, you can sign up to do a simple service project with Champions for Kids.

In addition, there are always opportunities to volunteer no matter the experience level in working with kids, nutrition or not for profit organizations. People are needed to organize and work at the events like the SIMPLE Service Project held all across the country. Sponsorship is also a way to help whether from a corporate entity, community organization or private community functions.

People are also encouraged to donate to the cause. Supporters can also purchase t-shirts from which the proceeds go toward the charity. Those who can make longer commitments to the cause can submit their ideas for the own SIMPLE Service Project and make a permanent presence of Champions for Kids in their communities. With so many issues effecting the well-being of children today, it is important to find ways to keep communities aware and help them actively engaged in providing solutions.

They’re such a great organization! I love how part of their mission is to mobilize the community, not just a one-time donation. Raising awareness in the community creates more long-term ongoing opportunities for the people who really need them. Great post!
