Since you’ve landed on this page, I’m guessing you want to know a little bit about this blog and the person behind it.
Diane was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. In 2004, she met the love of her life and moved to New Jersey. Although she considers herself to be a die-hard New Yorker and a city girl at heart, she adores living in Suburbia. She is a sports mom who can be found shuttling her son to and from basketball practice in the fall, and track meets in the spring. She loves to read, travel and shop!
Diane holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban Legal Studies and a law degree from Rutgers School of Law – Newark. She spent the first years of her working life in government, working for the city of New York. She then moved on to corporate America where she negotiated complex derivative agreements for some of this country’s largest commercial banks. She left the corporate world in 2009 to spend more time with her young son and turned to the internet for her next opportunity. She began freelancing and produced several niche websites and blogs. Social media became one of her passions. Below are some more tidbits and information about Diane and about this blog. She would love it if you read them!
About the Blog
To make a long story short: Life is multifaceted, and so am I! It’s the simple things in life that keeps me happy. Through this blog, I want to inspire moms to find Zen in their lives while offering practical tips and other valuable information to help families deal with everyday issues. I also talk about the ups and downs of life with husband Phil and son Z.E.N.
The not-quite-as-short version of a much longer story: What does Philzendia (fil-zen-dee-a) Mean? Philzendia is a fusion of my husband’s name (Philip), my son’s initials (Z.E.N.) and my name (Diane). I originally started this blog using the name “Oh Diane” but I realized that the name wasn’t very brand-able because it was popular in other arenas. So I wanted to came up with a name that was (1) brand-able, and (2) incorporated my family because first and foremost, my family means the world to me and I talk about them a lot. So please feel free to browse around and see what goes on Philzendia – our little place in the world.
I am a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister and a good friend. I live a simple life and strive to maintain a happy and healthy family. I am also passionate about a variety of issues that impact the lives of moms and women in general. I write about: parenting, food, healthy living, products, travel, family life, blogging and more.
As a graduate of The City University of New York and Rutgers School of Law – Newark, I spent the first years of my working life in government, working for the city of New York. I then moved on to corporate America where I negotiated complex derivative agreements for some of this country’s largest commercial banks. I quickly became tired of corporate politics, and I turned to the internet for my next opportunity. I began freelancing and produced several niche websites and I now blog at numerous blogs. SEO and using social media has become one of my specialties.
My Personal Life

Although I consider myself a die-hard New Yorker and a city girl at heart, I adore living in Suburbia. I love reading, writing, traveling, snapping pictures and spending time with my family.
